The field of neural regeneration has been growing exponentially in the last two decades. Previously, it was generally held that there was virtually no regeneration or possibility for regeneration in the Central Nervous System (CNS). This notion has changed as recent animal and human research studies have confirmed that CNS regeneration and repair are indeed possible.
The general public and even many scientists, physicians, and other health professionals are not aware of recent evolutionary changes in the field of CNS repair. It is important to keep this audience apprised of the tremendous progress being made in the field of neural repair. Millions of patients around the world are suffering from intractable diseases of the CNS; therefore, it becomes crucial to raise awareness about these diseases and the strategies used to induce the brain and spinal cord to regenerate when they are affected by such disorders.
